as well as other corps members who thronged the office of their zonal director to show solidarity with one of theirs who was manhandled by the principal previous weekend in the school premises.

An eyewitness told The Daily Times that trouble started last week Friday when Adeola, the corps member serving in the school, tried to play some pranks by writing the name of her colleague who was absent in the school staff attendance register.

But Mr. Friday Udoaka, the principal detected Adeola’s pranks and descended on her by giving her strokes of cane that was in his hand meant to flog students who reported late at school that morning.

The incident did not go well with Adeola’s colleagues. So by Saturday morning, all the corps members invaded the office of the state Director of NYSC, Mr. Amesseun, to protest the assault on their colleague.

By weekend, the picture of Adeola with her blood clotted hand had gone viral in the social media, causing tension in Akwa Ibom State considering the implication of the principal’s action.

The following day, our correspondent visited the school for a fact finding only to discover that the embattled principal was not in office.

When our correspondent further called the Head of Public Relations of NYSC in the state, he invited our correspondent to his office for clarification on the matter.

Before our correspondent arrived at the NYSC office, the controversial principal, Commissioner of Education in Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Victor Inoka and the state zonal Director of NYSC, were already seated with the corps member and her colleagues.

To set the ball rolling, Mr. Friday Udoaka was on his feet begging. In an emotion ladden voice, Udoaka said: “Adeola please forgive me. I was at the heat of anger”.

Udoaka, who has just three years to retire from civil service, further said: “I have never been rude to corps members before. Please forgive me”.

At this juncture, Prof. Inoka brought out the sum of N50,000 and gave to Adeola and emphasised the need for Corps members in the state to the needful. He also advised all the parties to let sleeping dog lie.
