Players shouldn’t be selected on league name – Seyi Akinwunmi

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Vice President since 2016, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, has frowned at wrong criteria’s for players selection to the National team.

According to him, the German born coach, Gernot Rohr is in the position to identify a player’s quality and form, as well as how that footballer fits in the playing system of the Super Eagles.

Seyi Akinwunmi said, “All we need for our national team are the best players, it doesn’t matter where they play football is a global sports,” Akinwumi told Brila.

“The fact that you play in the UK as long as you’re good enough and you fit the thinking of the coach you know his style of play, you fit in with in the camp, then you’re entitled to it. Every player should just work hard and focus on the league,” concluded the NFF head.

Meanwhile in 2012, he served on the adhoc committee for restructuring the Nigeria National League and was the Lagos State Football Association Chairman till 2016.
