Plateau legislative staff bemoan 2 months’ outstanding salary

The Legislative Staff of the Plateau State House of Assembly, are yet receive their salaries for over two months owing to the lingering dispute on whether to use the old salary scale or the new one just signed into law by Governor Simon Lalong.
Recall that the legislative staff, under the aegis of Legislative Staff Union of Nigeria, had embarked on a warning strike few months ago to press home their demand that, the State Ministry of Finance, should pay their salaries by implementing the new salary scale signed in to law by the governor.
The strike however, was called-off owing to the swift intervention of the State Lawmakers.
However, over three months since the intervention of the Honourable Lawmakers, the State Ministry of Finance has remained defiant.
Daily Times investigation revealed that though the State has been able to pay civil servants their salaries for July this year, the State Legislative staff are yet to be paid.
Investigations also show that the Lawmakers are also angry that their intervention is becoming hopeless owing to alleged disrespect by the Ministry, to implement the new salary scale.

However, political analysts, has opined that not paying the workers would have adverse effect on legislative proceedings as House Members resume sitting.
