Plateau IGR hits N10b in 2017 — PSIRS Chairman

The Chairman of the Plateau Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), Mr. Dashe Arlat on Wednesday said the board generated N10 billion in the year 2017.

Speaking at a briefing with newsmen to review the 2017 activities and projections for the year 2018, Arlat said the target for the board was to generate N12 billion in 2017.

He said, “out of the N12 billion and N11 billion targets allocated in the 2017 budget to PSIRS, and to MDAs respectively, PSIRS generated the sum of N8, 198, 588, 090.36 and on the other hand, all the MDA’s in Plateau State combined, reported a collection of N2, 589,756,486.09; added together, the total IGR for Plateau State in 2017 was N10, 788,344,576.45”, he said.

The PSIRS boss said to do more in 2018 which the agency is targeting to generate N21.1b, adding that they are intensifying sensitization campaigns across the 17 Local Government Areas so as to educate and mobilize taxpayers on tax matters.

“For us to achieve the Plateau State 2018 Budget Allocation of N21.1billion, the service will vigorously pursue and upscale thorough monitoring, and demand and ensure strict compliance by all MDAs in Plateau State to the government approved automation process of assessment, invoicing, collection, payment and receipting”.

He said government approved processes are aimed to check, identify and eliminate wastages, leakages and omissions that lead to loss of revenue across board, disclosing that the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service is among the first Revenue agencies in Nigeria that launched the Voluntary Asset and income declaration schemes VAIDS and also commended Governor Simon Lalong for signing into law the long awaited Plateau State internal Revenue harmonized law passed by the State Assembly last year.

“By Coming into force of the Plateau State internal Revenue Harmonized law, the stage is set and the path of progress made clear for the activation and sustenance of an effective, efficient and performance driven tax administration system in the state, and in all Local Governments”, he said.
