Phenomenal Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala joins septuagenarian club

Phenomenal is the closest word to describe what Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) has accomplished in the last seven decades of what can be described as a fulfilled life.
A woman of special grace, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala celebrated a major milestone a few days ago. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala joined the septuagenarian club in fine style. She rang in her 70th birthday.
Expectedly, she has been in the global spotlight for her excellent track record. From across the world, heartfelt messages have continued to pour in celebration of a woman many have described as one of the most influential women ever from the continent of Africa. Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu in his congratulatory message described Okonjo-Iweala as worthy ambassador of Nigeria.

According to a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, “The President extols the former Minister of Finance for her service to the nation and efforts towards building resilient institutions.
President Tinubu also commends the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation for being a worthy ambassador of Nigeria, exemplifying the grit, diligence, and brilliance that Nigerians are known for. The President prays for more years in good health for Dr. Okonjo-Iweala and her family”.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, a two-time Minister of Finance has etched her name into history book as one of Nigeria’s most successful female corporate leaders. She has scored many firsts, shattered the so called glass ceiling and setting fresh agenda on global stage. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has become a symbol of inspiration for many women across the continent of Africa. To mark her major milestone, she celebrated her 70th in company of her husband, Dr. Ikemba Iweala, a neurosurgeon and her colleagues at the World Trade Organisation in Switzerland.
