PFNigeria drums up support for restructuring

Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Cross River State chapter, has decried the continuous injustice and lack of fairness in governance at the national and state levels. Unless immediate steps are taken to address the situation and allay the fears of people agitation will ever continued.

The chairman of the group, Dr. Lawrence Ekwok, stated this in Calabar during a solemn assembly held to mark the 57th Independence anniversary of the Nigeria explaining that many ethnic groups in the country are aggrieved and feel marginalized which is why they feel they have to strive for their rights.

“When you do things and say ‘I don’t care’, people are bound to react and so leaders at every level should make sure there is fairness, social justice and equity and unless that is done, you will continue to have a harvest of agitations.”

He said whether in the military, political offices and distribution of amenities there should be equity so that people will not continue to be aggrieved and engage in agitations that are driving the country to a point of conflict.

“That is why people are asking for restructuring which the PFN supports so that they can take care of their own needs with resources from their areas.”

The PFN Chairman said presently there is laziness in government where people only wait to collect federal allocation at the end of the month but when power is devolved to the states and units, there will be hard work and completion among the units which will lead to development across the country.

According to him, restructuring the country is not dissolving the country but giving each ethnic group the opportunity to exploit it capacity and resources to the fullest.

He said the PFN has been holding solemn assembly every year to pray for the country and Cross River State and this has manifested in reduction of crime like armed robbery and kidnapping in the state and assured  that the organization will continue to live up to that responsibility.
