PFN backs proposed laws to regulate grazing
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, (PFN), has said the proposed laws by the National Assembly to regulate the activities of herdsmen in respect for human lives and property is a step in the right direction.
National President, PFN, Rev. Felix Omobude, called for an end to communal clashes, especially among migrant herdsmen and locals in some parts of the country, which he claimed have assumed a worrisome dimension.
His advice followed the unabated clashes between herdsmen and indigent farmers, with the recent been Agatu community in Benue State, which claimed several lives and destruction of property and farmlands.
Omobude made the call while speaking with newsmen in Benin City, where he also charged the Federal government to build ranches for livestock farmers to graze their livestock.
His words: “The activities of these cattle rearers across the country are becoming very worrisome. I think it is time the government of the day comes up with a strong stand in curbing these killings that are senseless”.
He said: “the solution is helping these cattle rearers develop the business of cattle rearing by building ranches for them to rear their cattle. People eat beef in Europe, but you do not see them parading their cattle on the roads or streets, let alone invade other people’s farms.
The Cleric paid tribute to the Federal Government under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari for debasing the enclave of Boko Haram insurgents which had in time past attempted to put religious worships centres in the hot-bed of north eastern states of the country in the crucible.
He urged government at all levels to fine tune arrangement to develop the agricultural and the solid mineral sectors with a view to facilitating foreign direct investment flow into the country.
