Peter Obi Confirms Interest, Vows to Contest for 2027 Presidential Election

The former governor of Anambra State and the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has made a determined declaration that he will contest the 2027 Presidential election regardless of any political obstacle ahead.

The former presidential candidate, who recently joined the ADC, said he left the Labour Party (LP) after being informed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would not recognise its leadership as long as he remained in the party.

“I left LP when I got informed that as long as I remain in the party, INEC will not recognise its leadership, that the federal government doesn’t want me on the ballot,” he said.

Obi made the bold statement at the OBIDIENT Conference and official declaration for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

“I want to assure you that I will contest the coming election even if it is held in their bedroom, and if they don’t want to transmit the results, we will transmit them for them,” he said.

He also criticised the borrowing record of the current administration.

“The present administration has taken more loans than previous governments, and a large portion of these debts will be repaid between 2045 and 2050. By that time, many of those responsible for contracting the loans may no longer be in office,” Obi said. The ex-governor further clarified his vision for the country, emphasizing that his administration would prioritise investment in education and healthcare, adding that sustainable development depends on human capital.

“When I became governor of Anambra, I advised my wife to forget about the Office of First Lady because we were not elected together,” he said.

“I approved over 100 Certificates of Occupancy on government land, but had none for myself or family. If you find any, petition me to the appropriate authority.”

Coordinator of the OBIDIENT movement worldwide, Tanko Yunusa has implored supporters to mobilize ahead of 2027 and rally behind the ADC.

Ben Smith, Akwa Ibom state coordinator of the movement, said the 2027 election gives room for a new generation of leaders to take responsibility of the country’s future.

“The 2027 presidential election is not about an individual but about a generation, jobs for the youths, security for families, dignity for workers and hope for every Nigerian,” he said.
