Perkovic retains women’s discus title

Croatia’s Sandra Perkovic retained her Olympic discus crown with relative ease on Tuesday with a best heave of 69.21 metres. France’s Melina Robert Michon took silver in a national record 66.73 with world champion Denia Caballero of Cuba having to settle for bronze (65.34)
 

Danes end Chinese reign in women’s badminton doubles
Giant-killing Danes Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl stunned China’s second-ranked pair in the semifinals of the women’s badminton doubles at the Olympics on Tuesday to end the Asian nation’s 20-year stranglehold on the title. An inspired performance at the Riocentro saw Pedersen and Rytter Juhl fend off Yu Yang and Tang Yuanting 21-16 14-21 21-19 in a thriller, ensuring Denmark will grab their first medal in the event since badminton joined the Olympic programme in 1992.
 

Schooling eyes more Olympic glory
Singapore’s first Olympic gold medallist, swimmer Joseph Schooling, said on Tuesday he was looking to beat the world record for 100 metres butterfly and planned to compete in two more events at the next Olympics in Tokyo. After winning gold in Rio de Janeiro in the 100 metres butterfly last week and reaching the semifinals in 100 metres freestyle, Schooling said he might also challenge in the 200 metres butterfly and the 200 metres individual medley (IM).
