PDP wins Takum 1 Bye-election in Taraba

Ajiya Samson Garba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the Takum 1 State Constituency By-Election conducted on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Taraba State.
Our Correspondent gathered that the by-election was to fill the vacuum created at the State Assembly owing to the death of Barrister Hosea Ibi, who was kidnapped in December, 2017 and later killed by his kidnappers in January, 2018.
Announcing the Result at the Local Government Secretariat, Takum, the INEC Returning Officer, Dr. Daniel Ayuba Kwada, said Ajiya won five out of the six Wards of the Constituency by scoring a total number of 10,725 votes.
According to him, Atem Ansho of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 3,268 votes to emerge second position while of the social Democratic Party (SDP) got the 3rd position with 203 votes.
The Returning Officer, who disclosed that the Election was held under a peaceful atmosphere, added that Nine Political Parties participated in the exercise.
Reacting to the Result shortly, Governor Darius Ishaku, thanked the people of Takum 1 State Constituency for coming out en-masse to vote massively for PDP.
While describing the result as a litmus test to 2019 general elections, Governor Ishaku charged the electorates to collect their Permanent Voter’s Cards PVCs) saying, the margin between APC and PDP could have been much.
In a Telephone interview with the APC Candidate, Mr. Atem Ansho, he disagreed with the result saying there were a lot of irregularities.
