The Rivers state chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), says it has credible intelligence that the governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have concluded plans to deploy fake soldiers, policemen and other security agencies.
The APC said in a press statement it issued on Sunday that the plot by the PDP and Gov. Wike was meant to justify the wild allegations the governor had been making against the Independent National Election Commission (INEC), the Inspector-General of Police, Rivers state Police Commissioner and other stakeholders in the weeks leading to the rerun elections.
The press statement signed by the APC Chairman in Rivers State, Chief Davies Ikanya, stated that the intelligence report indicated that the PDP and Governor Wike were branding Hilux trucks similar to the ones used by security agents at an undisclosed location. He further claimed: “They are alleged to have also cloned and produced various uniforms belonging to security agencies especially the Nigeria Police and special military camouflage for the purpose of infiltrating the security agencies and invading communities where rerun elections will take place on December 10 to hijack electoral materials and perpetrate other electoral mischief.”
The APC also claimed that several National Youth Service Corp, NYSC uniforms complete with APC tags had been sown for the use of which PDP thugs who would wear them while thumbprint ballot papers on Election Day to implicate the APC.
According to the APC chairman, the governor’s plan was to be executed in all the areas where elections would take place, but with emphasis on Rivers South-East, Senator Magnus Abe’s stronghold.
The APC alleged that Wike and the PDP maintained a private army of armed gang under Solomon Ndigbara. It said: “Solomon Ndigbara has been confirmed to be under the protection of Gov. Wike and have been living in Government House, Port Harcourt even as a wanted person by Nigerian security agencies.”
The APC chairman said that the party welcomed the decision of the Inspector-General of Police to provide 20,000 officers and men of the force for the rerun elections. “We also urge sister security agencies to support the Police to ensure a violence-free rerun election on December 10. We call on the security agencies to ensure that their ranks are not infiltrated by PDP gunmen dressed in cloned uniforms of the various security services,” Chief Ikanya said.
In another press statement, the APC wondered why Governor Wike appeared to be particularly interested in the security arrangements made by APC candidates as the rerun elections approached.
According to the party, “the APC finds this matter quite worrisome because ordinarily the governor should not be bothered by security arrangements people make for themselves in the face of general insecurity that presently pervades our once peaceful state now under his watch. It is all too well known that he lacks the moral grounds to genuinely fight insecurity having caused it ab initio. It is highly suspicious that a governor will climb a political soapbox and start reeling out names of security agents attached to his political opponents. The easiest thing that comes to mind is that Gov. Wike has very sinister motives for seeking to always ascertain the security architecture around his opponents.”
The APC condemned the continued blackmail of all stakeholders in the forthcoming rerun elections. It said: “We remind Gov. Wike that immunity in public office has expiry date.”
