PDP now regional party, can’t pose serious opposition, says Ondo APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has now turned into a regional party and would be difficult for it to form a formidable opposition in the country.
Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, spokesman of the ruling APC in the state said this in a statement issued in Akure, the capital city.
Adesanya said the emergence of Prince Uche Secondus as the party’s National Chairman at its Convention in Abuja has further made the PDP a regional party.
He alleged that the structure of PDP has also been hijacked from its real founding fathers with the aid of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State his counterpart in Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose.
“The former President Goodluck Jonathan has succeeded in hijacking the party’s (PDP) structures from its founding fathers, with the help of his allies (Secondus, Wike and Fayose) for selfish interest.
“It is on record that, the singular action of President Jonathan in the build up to the 2015 general elections, to impose himself on PDP, when he prevailed on the leadership of the party to print only one presidential nomination form solely for him was the hammer that finally nailed PDP’s coffin.
“The final funeral outing now took place during the just concluded December 9th Party’s Convention.
“The former President disenfranchised other prospective aspirants from exercising their franchise in the 2014 PDP presidential primary.
“It is obvious to the whole world that PDP lacks internal democracy, vis-a-vis the outcome of its December 9th convention,” he added.
Adesanya also described the opposition PDP as a “leopard that cannot change its spots” due to the various complaints that greeted its December convention.
“The so called convention was characterised by high level of impunity, monetisation, corruption, lack of internal democracy, which have become thorns in PDP’s flesh for so long, and has inflicted so much injuries on the body polity of Nigerians and the country during its 16 years rule.
“It is a pity that, the once upon a time, self acclaimed largest political party (PDP) in Africa, could end up in the belly of self-centered political jobbers from the South-South/South-East.
“To this end, the country needs a very formidable and viral opposition political party(s) for a better political development, but certainly, not the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” he said.
