Why PDP may lose in Udenu council, by APC candidate

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Dr. Obinna Obetta has boasted that he has the antidote to defeat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), candidate in today’s local government election in Enugu State.
Obetta, stated this in an interview with our correspondent on Thursday in Enugu against the backdrop of recent development involving the emergence of his opponent Mr. Frank Ugwu as PDP candidate.
He noted that both Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuany and his opponent, Frank Ugwu are from same locality and that residents of the council are happy that Ohom-Orba is being positioned as chairman of the council.
“Communities in Udenu are not comfortable with the arrangement of the PDP in picking its candidate from the same place with the governor.
“Governor Ugwuanyi is from Ohom-Orba, Frank Ugwu, the PDP candidate is also from Ohom-Orba, this is why our people are disenchanted. They are asking is Ohom-Orba community is the only community qualified for elective positions in Udenu.
“The people feel that another community should produce the chairman for the council. They said politics of Udenu should not be left in the hands of one community and that is why majority of them are queuing behind me.
He boasted that among the 10 wards in the council, APC would have at least eight wards.
Obetta pointed out that the 20 months abysmal performance of his opponent as Caretaker chairman will also work against him.
“My people are not happy with the performance of Frank Ugwu who was the immediate past Caretaker Committee Chairman of Udenu and they are asking why he will be contesting the chairmanship seat when he did nothing.
“If I fail to deliver on my campaign promises within six months of my administration I will resign,” he said.
“My achievements within two years will surpass that of PDP in the past 18 years in the area. Udenu has both human and material resources, but the problem has been mismanagement by successive local government chairmen in the area,” he said.
He appealed to both ENSIEC and security agencies in the state to provide a level playing ground for all contestants in the election.
“I will accept defeat if my opponent from PDP genuinely defeats me, but will head to court if I am defeated via rigging and manipulations,” he said.
