PDP: Factional state chairmen rally support for Abdulrahman, Ohuabunwa

Factional chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared support for the new set of leadership in the party under Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammed as acting National Chairman and Hon. Mao Ohuabunwa as chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT.

Affirming faith in the ability of the new leaders to stabilize the party and set it on the path of recovery, the chairmen rallied the support of party members for both Abdulrahman and Ohuabunwa leadership.

Under the aegis of The Progressive and Democratic Chairmen of PDP, the body in a statement made available to the media in Abuja on Wednesday, said, “we recognize that the PDP was founded on the timeless ideals of democracy, justice, equity, and inclusiveness—principles that have sustained its relevance since the advent of the Fourth Republic.”

In the statement read by the Imo State Chairman, Austine Nwachukwu, the chairmen said people of like minds are desirous of salvaging the party fromm the brinks of collapse.

According to him, he said the chairmen will do everything possible to ensure that the party not only survives its current challenges but emerges stronger, more united, and truly reflective of the will of its members and the Nigerian people.

“In this regard, the statement, we affirm our unwavering commitment to the rule of law, internal democracy, and total adherence to the provisions of our party’s constitution in the day-to-day administration of our affairs. We believe that discipline, fairness, and constitutional order are indispensable to the credibility and sustainability of our great party,” the statement.

The PDP chairmen expressed their full support for the appointment of Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad as Acting National Chairman of the party and Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT).

“We have absolute confidence in their leadership capacity, experience, and integrity to steer the PDP through this period of renewal and repositioning,” they said.

According to them, both leaders represent the democratic spirit, institutional memory, and inclusive vision required to rebuild trust, restore confidence, and drive the ongoing process of reconciliation and reorganization across all levels of the party.

They added that under the guidance of Abdulrahman and Ohuabunwa, the PDP would be better positioned to reclaim its historic role as the chief promoter and defender of democracy in Nigeria.

The statement further called on all loyal members of the party—from the grassroots to the national level—to unite, put aside personal ambitions, and work collectively toward the revival and transformation of the PDP into a truly people-oriented, progressive political movement.

“Our commitment remains unshaken,” the chairmen declared, “to build a PDP that Nigerians can once again look up to with pride and confidence—as the credible alternative, the voice of democracy, and the platform for good governance,” the statement added.
