PDP Crisis: Time to support Sheriff leadership is now,- Falegan

‪A chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP), Hon. Opeyemi Falegan, has said it is imperative for all PDP stakeholders across the country to come together as an entity and work with with Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s leadership in order to rebuild the party and salvage it.‬

‪Falegan who said there is no other time to rebuild the PDP than now, pointed out that with the latest development from the Court of Appeal, “the coast is clear that Ali Modu Sheriff’s chairmanship position is the undoubted and authentic one and it is now the responsibility of all lovers of democracy within and outside the party to support him.”

‪The United Kingdom-based politician specifically called on PDP Chieftains to come together and support the Sheriff-led national executive saying, “this will encourage him to organise an all inclusive national convention where an acceptable new chairman will emerge soon”.‬

Falegan who stated this in a statement he made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti however blame some people he described as selfish, egocentric and self-centered politicians within the party for the prolonged leadership crisis rocking the party.

The PDP chieftain who said it is unfortunate that such politicians have vowed not to allow peace in the party in order to actualise their inordinate ambitions of pocketing PDP at all cost, however called on the National chairman of the Party to, as a matter of urgency, look at all issues affecting the party dispassionately and bring everybody on board again in order to make the party come back stronger and take up its leadership position in Nigeria’s politics soon.‬

Specifically, he expressed the need for the members and leadership of the party to close ranks and move on in the interest of Nigerians, adding that, ‪”efforts must be concentrated on how to make reconciliation and call a truce where necessary in order to reposition PDP and win subsequent elections and at the same time, those who erred must also be sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others in future”

Falegan who emphasise the need to sanction any member, no matter how highly placed who may want to continue to draw back the will of progress in the party insisted that, ‪”anybody who believes he is too big to submit himself to the constituted authority in the party must be shown the way out in order to allow peace and tranquility to reign in the party.‬

‪”PDP remains the only party in Nigeria that believes in the principles of justice, equity and good governance at all levels and the party will not derail from such attributes, but rather continue to promote democracy in the country.‬

‪”Whoever believes he has grown above the law of the party and the Nigerian Constitution no matter how highly placed he may be, must also be called to order as a way of bringing sanctity and ideal into PDP. These will go a long way in restoring the lost glory of the party.‬

‪”Nobody will accept a situation whereby a certain cabal will continue to hold a whole party and country to ransom because of their selfish agenda at the expense of all party loyalists in and outside the country, especially in the build up to another general elections in Nigeria.‬

‪”The marriage of inconvenience entered into by some state governors who believed they could manipulate Senator Sheriff without following due process in the Party before crucial decisions are made had collapsed for our collective good”on the lack of trust between them.‬

‪”The aim of such governors was to commercialise the party, thinking that, the national chairman will play the ball along with them, not for the benefit of the electorate, but rather to make illegitimate and dubious gains at the expense of the Nigerian masses, especially the PDP supporters across the country.‬

‪”And since it is unequivocal and unparalleled fact now, that the cabal who was out to cause confusion and instability in PDP has lost out, sincere leaders and stakeholders in the party must come together and rescue it, before it is too late”.‬Falegan added.
