PDP caucus backs peace deal with Sheriff
… Sets to inaugurate committee on Monday
…Vows to reclaim seats from defected MPs
The expanded caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday gave its nod for the reconciliation moves by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee with Senator Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the party.
This is even as the PDP said that it is taking steps to ensure that it takes back its seats from the National Assembly members that defected from its fold to the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, under the excuse that there are divisions within the opposition party.
The PDP expanded caucus gave the approval after a crucial meeting in Abuja.
The meeting had in attendance elected governors of the party, members of its Board of Trustees (BoT), PDP National Assembly Caucus, PDP former Ministers’ Forum and States’ Chairmen of the party.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye confirmed these while speaking with journalists at the end of the meeting.
Adeyeye stated that the only agenda discussed at the Wednesday’s meeting was the peace moves with members of Sheriff faction.
The committee that will faction out the peace process, he said, will be inaugurated on Monday next week.
His words, “The peace move has been finally endorsed and supported by members of caucus without any dissent
voice”.
Prince Adeyeye, a former Minister of State for Works under the last administration, denied that there are factions in
PDP.
He pointed out that what is in existence within the PDP is a disagreement among members.
According to him, “We don’t have factions in PDP. There are
some of our members who are aggrieved. We are making moves to ensure peace in the party.
“By the grace of God the peace committee will be inaugurated on Monday next week,” he assured.
The PDP spokesperson revealed that some former members of
the party in the National Assembly who left to join the All
Progressives Congress (APC) are going to lose their seats in the
parliament.
Prominent among the defectors are; Senator Joshua Dariye, former governor of Plateau State and a member of House of
Representatives, Hon. Tony Nwoye from Anambra State.
The opposition party, Adeyeye said, is taking serious steps to recover the seats they occupy in the National Assembly, which he said, belong to the party.
He said, “We are taking steps to make sure that we take back the seats from the lawmakers that defected from PDP to APC.
“There is no factionalisation in PDP, INECrecognizes the caretaker committee. All the organs of the party arein one place.
“We are taking very serious moves to ensure that members who took our seats to APC are recovered,” Adeyeye said.
