PDP accuses FG, APC of plans to shut Akure Airport, stall Ekiti rally

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has warned the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government to shelve its plan to shut down the Akure airport purposefully to deny members of PDP access to Ado Ekiti for today’s governorship rally of the party ahead of July 14 election.

The party has therefore called on good spirited Nigerians to caution the federal government against closure of the airport on the pretext of carrying out repairs.

PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan at an interface with the media in Abuja yesterday said “there is a dangerous trend by APC to stall the rally. Information showed that the federal government will shut the Akure airport to prevent our members’ access to Ado Ekiti.

“Also we learnt that the Ondo State government is planning to move earthmoving equipment to the road leading from Ondo to Ado Ekiti to prevent vehicular movement of our members. This is in a bid to stop our members from across the country from moving either by air or by road into Ado Ekiti. This is unfortunate and callous”, he said.

He said the PDP is poised and ready to win the election, stressing that there is a consensus in all the 16 local government area in the state to repeat the 2014 feat by returning PDP back to power in Ekiti.

However, he said the party leadership are on top of the situation with alternative plans to steps ahead of APC plans.

Ologbondiyan reiterated the party’s previous call on INEC to be a true and unbiased arbiter in the governorship election and to avoid being used by the federal government to perpetrate fraud in elections management.
