PDP accuses APC of plans to announce fake result in Edo

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday said that it has uncovered a plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to announce fake result of today’s governorship election in Edo State.
The PDP said this in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye. The opposition party claimed that the plot was hatched in connivance with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and that it included the distribution of fake results sheets to polling units in different areas of the state.
The party alleged that APC is planning to use INEC’s Local Government Collation Officers to write fictitious results on real results sheets of some local government areas.
The PDP lamented that despite the warnings of President Muhammadu Buhari to INEC and security agencies, the ruling party in Edo State is planning to use thugs brought into the state from other states to harass and intimidate the citizens of Edo State.
The opposition party claimed further that under the arrangement, the ‎security agencies will be used to arrest, harass and intimidate members and supporters of the PDP; and to provide security cover for members of the APC to execute their nefarious plots.‎
It said, “We are aware that President Muhammadu Buhari has warned the INEC Chairman in private to ensure a free, fair and credible process in Edo State.
“We are also aware that the President has also warned the relevant security agencies to ensure a preservation of the peace in the state during the election.
“We urge the relevant stakeholders to allow the Edo people to freely elect the leader they desire for the next four years and to allow the will of the people to prevail,” PDP advised.
‎The party reminded INEC and APC that the Edo people are united in their determination to vehemently resist any attempt to manipulate the electoral process.
It therefore advised INEC to ensure that its staff abides by the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 (as Amended) as well as its electoral manual and guidelines.
