Pay our salaries, protesting workers tell Edo Govt
At least five workers with the Edo Line Transportation Services have died since the salary of some of them was stopped in June 2015 by the State Ministry of transport.
The dead are among the 25 who were neither sacked from their jobs nor dismissed when the state government handed over the management of the firm to a popular transporter, Chief John Adun.
Breaking the sad news to newsmen during a protest march in Benin City, the spokesman for the affected workers, Comrade Tony Bamawo said they were never queried before the sudden stoppage of their salaries, three years ago.
Displaying placards with inscriptions as, ‘Edo line: Pay us our salaries, reinstate us now’, ‘Who is speaker Adjoto afraid of?’, the aggrieved workers marched through major streets in Benin City including the NUJ Press Centre and ended at state Assembly complex, Kings Square.
