Panic grips Delta Council Service Commission workers over staff verification exercise

Fear of the unknown has continued to grip Delta State unified Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) workers following the commencement of State Verification Exercise with no fewer than 226 ghost workers reportedly uncovered, the exercise according to the commission, is line with the State Governor’s policy on the audit of all staff in its employment.

In a circular signed by the secretary of the Commission, Mr. Clement Onighoro, a copy made available to our reporter, stated that the verification exercise will help in evaluating the state strength of the Local Governments in the State for better service delivery.

Accordingly, the circular explained that all staff of the 25 Local Government Councils would be screened, adding that the ghost workers were currently being investigated.

Unconfirmed report said the ghost workers had been on the employment lists of the unified Local Government Service Commission over the years before the bubble burst.

But the chairman of the commission, Mr. Ulumani Oyibo, told journalists that no stone would be left unturned to fish out more ghost workers.

Meanwhile, the state government has said that it will stop at nothing in ensuring the welfare of civil servants in the state for optimal performance.

The Head of Service (HOS) Mr. Reginald Bayoko who made this known on Tuesday when delegates of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NSCU), South South Zone led by the Zonal Chairman, Mr. Toni Toki paid him a courtesy visit, said the present administration places high premium on the welfare, and capacity building of the workforce, and as such would always do the needful to get the best from the workers.

He reiterated the commitment to operate an open door policy, adding that he would always welcome suggestions, and cross fertilization of ideas aimed at not only moving the state forward, but also to actualize civil service forward and the SMART Agenda of the state government.

He applauded the Labour Unions in the state for their peaceful disposition, adding that the present administration under the watch of a labour friendly Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, would always carry the workforce along in the realization of set goals that would be beneficial to all.

In his remarks, the Vice President/Zonal Chairman, (NSCU) Mr. Toni Toki said they were in the office of the HOD to inform him of their workings, and appealed for efficient and effective service delivery by the health personnel at the health facilities designed for implementation of the contributory health insurance scheme to achieve desire result.
