OYSAA warns against unlawful ad placement

The Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA) has warned against the placement of unapproved political campaign materials that are errantly being posted in different sites, including lamp poles, around the city of Ibadan, thereby constituting fragrant breaches of the extant laws and regulation of the agency.

In a statement signed by the Director General of the Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA), Mr. Yinka Adepoju, he said: “We wish to inform the general public and stress that OYSAA, the statutory Agency of Oyo State Government has mandate to regulate Outdoor Advertisement of any nature including political campaign materials and will not tolerate any violation of its guidelines and procedures.”

“To this end, all political campaign organisations/committees are strongly advised to duly apply and obtain approval of OYSAA before posting the campaign materials for their parties in any location, including lamp poles. The warning has become necessary in order not to exacerbate the already tense political climate in the country at this electioneering time and to maintain the pervading peace being enjoyed in Oyo State in particular,” he added.

Furthermore, Adepoju said: “For the avoidance of doubt, OYSAA will not permit the abuse of its guidelines for any advertisement campaign, especially political campaigns because of their sensitivity.  Those that have posted advertising materials and put up billboards indiscriminating without approval from the body are hereby directed to remove them within immediate effect, as failure to do this shall attract the recommended penalty stated in the act.”
