A call has gone to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, particularly those who have completed their one-year mandatory service to think of being self-reliance rather than looking for white collar jobs.
Giving the charge was the Head of Service, Oyo State, Mrs Hannah Ogunesan, during an enlightenment talk for the outgoing 2017 Batch A Streams I and II Corps members in Oyo State organised by the state government through the ministry of youth and sport which held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan.
Ogunesan, who was represented on the occasion by the Permanent Secretary, Service Matter at the Head of Service office, Mrs Adejoke Eyitayo, congratulated the outgoing Corps members on the completion of their service and commended them for their commitment to the development of Oyo State.
“White collar jobs are not readily available and that is the reason I’m urging you to think of being self-reliance by taking to entrepreneurship. I am very sure all of you have an idea of what being an entrepreneur can do to you.
You will be financially independent and when you are financially independent, you have the lesser problem of providing for your basic needs.
“Therefore, I want to implore you to engage in various entrepreneurship skills because global population explosion has caused great competition among the youths, so it will be of great importance for you to think of being independent and I believe by doing that, you will go places.” She said.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports in the State who also doubles as the Chairman, governing council of the NYSC in the state, Mr Abayomi Oke, while addressing the corps members said, “Having willingly served in our dear state, I commend your courage, love and contributions to the development of Oyo State and wish you all the best in your next phase of life.”
