Oyo, Ibadan

By Stephen Gbadamosi

The 15-man Palliative Committee on Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) in Oyo State has assured residents of the state that it will start disbursement of palliatives soon.

The committee, headed by the Chief of Staff (CoS), Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, has divided itself into five sub-committees to hasten the implementation of the palliatives as directed by the state governor, Seyi Makinde.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, and made available to journalists on Tuesday in Ibadan.

Ogunwuyi said the state government was not unaware of the anticipation by citizens to benefit from the palliatives promised by Governor Makinde to mitigate the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy.

The five sub-committees are: Sub-Committee on Transportation, headed by Alhaji Gafar Bello; Sub-Committee on Food Palliatives, headed by Hon. Segun Olayiwola; Sub-Committee on Food Security, headed by Mr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye; Sub-Committee on Small and Micro-Enterprises, headed by Professor Musibau Babatunde and Sub-Committee on Healthcare, headed by Prince Oyelade.

It will be recalled that in a statewide broadcast to cushion the effect of the oil subsidy removal and the general hardship on the people of Oyo State, the governor had promised to put in place measures that would assist the residents, particularly the down-trodden.

Committee chairman, Ogunwuyi, at a meeting with the enlarged committee members, said the palliatives would be rolled out the moment the governor ratified the final template for the implementation from members.

He added that inputs would be extended to 10,000 farmers in various enterprises.
Also, YEAP beneficiaries and small holder farmers who were known and proven to be engaging in active farming would benefit from the N500 million government loan.

Hon. Ogunwuyi added that new routes had been mapped out by the transportation sub-committee for residents of the state.
