Oyakhilome, three others docked in Benin

The police in Benin have charged to court Flora Oyakhilome and Messrs Egharevba Jacob, Jonathan Oweibor, Goodluck Uwaifo on a two-count-charge of false information and allegation against one Solomon A.Oboh and four others.

The accused persons who pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them in the open court presided over by Chief Magistrate F.E. Akhere Esq. are being tried for giving the police false information in their written statements on December 15, 2015 at the AIG Office, Zone 5 Headquarters in the Oredo Magisterial District to the effect that Solomone A. Oboh, John Ehigie Jacob, Eliss Igodan, Mrs. J.N Okeke and Charles Awodu had fraudulently diverted the sum of N1Million Naira Association and Vigilante funds and threat to life knowing same to be false and with the intention of causing the police officers to use their lawful power to the injury and annoyance of Mr. Solomon Oboh and Four Others an offense punishable under section 125 (A) (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap C21 Vol. 1, Laws of the defunct Bendel State 1976 as applicable in Edo State of Nigeria.

The Accused also being tried on count two for conspiring among themselves to falsely accuse Solomon Oboh, John Ehigie Jacob, Eliss Igodan, Mrs. J.N. Okeke and Charles Awodu and caused them to be charged with the offence of fraudulent diversion/stealing of One Million Naira knowing that they were innocent of the alleged offence, and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 125 of the Criminal Code, Cap 48 Vol II, Laws of the defunct Bendel State1976 as applicable in Edo State of Nigeria.

The case has been adjoined to December 13, 2017for further hearing after admitting the accused persons to bail.
