Osun: Senatorial Candidate Escapes Assassination, INEC Returns Omoworare

Suspected gunmen allegedly attacked the senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Osun East, Prince Francis Fadahunshi, late Sunday evening.

The attack reportedly occurred in front of the Osun State Secretariat of the PDP, spokesperson for Fadahunsi Campaign,  SolaOlowoye, said.

According to him, the convoy of the PDP candidate was returning from the head office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osogbo, when some unidentified men shot at Fadahunsi.

According to him, a vehicle was initially noticed trailing Fadahunsiprompting his convoy to run into the PDP secretariat for safety.

He said, “But as he was being rushed into the premises of PDP secretariat, some armed men alighted from the vehicle and fired several shots at the car conveying Fadahunshi.

 

“He barely escaped being hit by the bullets. Fadahunshi was in company of the state chairman of PDP, AlhajiGaniOlaoluwa and other party leaders when the attack took place. They had visited the INEC office because of the delay in announcing the winner of the senatorial contes.”

Meanwhile, INEC on Monday returned the incumbent senator representing Osun East, BabajideOmoworare, as the winner of last Saturday’s poll.

Omoworare polled 101, 352 to defeat the PDP candidate, Prince Francis AdenigbaFadahunshi, who polled 99,166 votes.

But the result of the Ife Central Local Government Area had been subject of controversy.

One of causes of controversy was the abduction of the returning officer, which delayed the release of the result till about noon on Monday.
