Osun NUJ Decries Attack on Journalists
The Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Osun State chapter, has condemned the attack on some of its members on Tuesday, by suspected thugs, hired by the disputing leaders of Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The two factions in the TUC had caused confusion and chaos at Osun State Government Secretariat on Tuesday over difference of opinion on a three-day warning strike.
During the crisis, journalists, as well as the cameraman of Channels Television, Mr. Oyegbenile Oloyede were pounced and attacked with weapons by the thugs brought inside a TUC-branded vehicle.
Also, a female member of the National Youth Service Corps, reportedly sustained several injuries on her body.
The Vice-Chairman of the Osun NUJ, Comrade Kehinde Ayantunji, described the attack as barbaric and destructive.
On his part, Secretary of the union, Bamigbola Gbolagunte, aslo condemned the attack of his colleagues by the hoodlums.
The NUJ Council, however, demanded for “immediate release of the camera that was carted away by the hired hoodlums and TUC should prepared an apology letter for both the NUJ and Channels TV, along with settlement of the hospital bills of the journalist concerned in order for the issue to be resolved.”
