Osun assembly speaker distributes food items to constituents

In a bid to cushion the effects of the stay at home order of the Osun state government to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye has distributed food items to people of Ilesa East.

The speaker stated that the gesture was aimed at providing succor for the people of Ilesa East irrespective of their party affiliation.

Owoeye while distributing the food items to all the 11 wards in his constituency, commended the people for complying with the stay at home directive of the state government.

He held that the level of compliance in Osun state has shown that residents and citizens of the state are ready to partner with government to contain the pandemic of thwcoronavirus.

The speaker said: “What we are doing today has nothing to do with politics, these food items of rice, beans and semovita among others is for everyone, the would be beneficiaries have nothing to do with any political affiliation.

“COVID-19 is no respecter of race, sex or any political party, at this point in time, we must be committed to the well-being of our people who could not go about their businesses because of the lockdown in the state.

“I commend our people for complying with the order of government. I also like to laud the effort of governor at containing the outbreak of COVID-19 in the state of Osun.

“The proactive measures of the Gboyega Oyetola led administration has in no small way reduced the rate of contraction of the pandemic of the coronavirus in our dear state.

“No amount of hours that we spend at home to remain safe in time like this can be compared to losing our previous lives to the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.”

Owoeye admonished that people should not be weary of the habit of good hygeiene they have developed, saying that people of Osun state must continue to maintain regular hand washing and staying safe.

The speaker therefore, handed over several bags of cereals and other food items worth millions of naira to representatives of each community for immediate distribution to their people.
