Organised private sector in W/Africa collaborates on data protection

The organised Private sector in West Africa has stated their resolve to collaborate with government agencies involved in data regulation and control to curb all forms of cyber crimes as well as sensitizing the citizens on the need for personal data protection.

Speaking at a High level policy round table on general data protection regulation in Abuja, the President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce, Adetokunbo Kayode emphasised on the importance of the private sector to provide technical support to government institutions in the area of protecting data of citizens from the wrong hands.

“Most of the activities of data protection and regulation are private sector based; we want private sector to be involved because it is not enough to entrust it all to the government. For us in the private sector, we are ready to work together to get good legislation.

“Whatever we do here, we believe can positively impact other ECOWAS countries, and Nigeria should lead the way, we are taking this message not only within Nigeria but across West Africa.”
