OPFY Commander orders complete eradication of terrorists in Northwest

The Joint Task Force Operation FASAN YAMMA (OPFY) operating in the North West Nigerian theatre against insurgents have heightened its operations moving it from downgrading adversaries’ potential to “complete eradication of terrorists and their agents,” the commander has said.

Major General Warren Bello Idris, the Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), disclosed this in Gusau on Wednesday when the DHQ Defence Correspondents team on tour of the theatre visited OPFY Headquarters.

He said the theatre is not interested in downgrading adversaries but to eradicate them where ever they are found within the theatre that operates from three sectors located in Kaduna, Zamfara and Niger.

“Our purpose and our mission here is not for us to suppress or reduce the activities of terrorists,” Idris stated. “Our mission is the complete eradication of terrorism in the Northwestern region and the country at large. Every single asset available to us will be geared towards achieving this.”

He said military remains bound by its oath to see the mission through to the end, describing the restoration of security as a non-negotiable duty.

The commander said the order to eliminate all terrorists is already in force adding that just last month a group of terrorists who were on their way from Mali to Nigeria met their Waterloo as they were rounded up when they entered the country.

He said the operation was made possible through credible intelligence adding that human intelligence is very essential in tackling terrorists and infiltrators whose aim is to cause confusion.

Fielding question on why it has become difficult to track down some key notorious terrorist leaders like Bello Tunji, the commander said the troops are on their trail and even as these notorious terrorist leaders move from one remote forest to another on daily bases we will one day eliminate them, he assured.

He described Bello Tunji’s claim of being in control of some local government areas as a blatant lie. He challenged him to name those local governments, towns or villages under his control. ” I dare Bello Tunji to come out.”

Major General Idris appealed to journalists to help combat false narratives of the terrorists, their agents and vehicles of confusion
