Onwuchekwa calls for unity in TFN
The newly elected President of the Nigerian Taekwondo Black Belt College (NTBBC), Uzoma Onwuchekwa, has pleaded with all the warring factions of the Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria (TFN) to lay their arms and embrace peace in the interest of the game.
Onwuchekwa made the plea in Lagos while giving his opening speech at the inauguration ceremony held at the University of Lagos Guest House, Akoka, recently.
While reaffirming the need for peace, the Black Belt College President insisted that his immediate priority was to unite all the warring factions even as he described crisis as ill-wind that blows no one any good.
“I want to appeal to all of us, especially those of us that have created factions to lay down their arms and embrace peace in the interest of the sport. We cannot continue to have a divided house in Nigeria Taekwondo.
“That is why I have made a priority to bring all of us back into one fold as members of one indivisible family with unity as our watch word,” he said.
Admitting that politics has eaten deep into the college in recent times to the extent that the college has lost some of its values, the president who sees his election as a reflection of the call for total change in taekwondo, promised to bring the NTBBC back to its academic footings irrespective of the challenges ahead.
Onwuchekwa advised Nigerians to forget the past even as he promised to provide the needed platform for the Olympic sport to strive again in the country and calls for all hands to be on deck
