Onitsha Business man raises alarm of threat to life

An Onitsha businessman, Chief Eric Uwaoma has raised alarm of fresh threat to life, violence and conducts likely to breach peace over empty shop space he acquired from Mgbelekeke family of Onitsha, the owners of the land.

Chief Uwaoma in a petition to the Police in the State alleged that one Chibuike popularly known as Chibuyke and his agents have been disturbing, harassing, threatening lives of his people and used thugs, Army and Police to destroy his shops situated on Haruna Street, opposite, 30 Haruna Street in Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra state.

Chief Uwaoma said Chibuike who is the brother of the owner of a property close to his own has been laying claim to his property, while the two property are distinct and separate.

He said that following the actions of Chibuike’s men, he has been facing a lot of hardship with his people as they now live in fear of being maimed or worse still killed in the place which is a street market.

He said in a petition by his lawyer, Atewodi Akawu, “we implore you to use your good offices to investigate the matter with a view to discovering the truth behind this matter and bring back the peace that has always been enjoyed by the members of our clients in the market.

Meanwhile Chief Uwaoma has dragged the owners of the property, Chibuike, Kingsley Paul and others to court asking for an order of interim injection restraining them, the defendants /respondents, his agents from further acts of trespass or continuing trespass on the land with shops situated at opposite No 30 Haruna street, Onitsha.

In the suit filed by Chief Uwaoma`s lawyers in Onitsha High court, Atewodi Akawu, he asked the court to further make such other orders as the court may deem fit to make in the circumstance of the case.

Chief Uwaoma said that apart from having valid papers of the land from the Mgbelekeke family of Onitsha, he also duly registered the property in the Onitsha South Local government ledger.

He said the size of the land of the defendants is 377.076 sq metre which was established by a Court of competent jurisdiction but they have taken more than that.

However, a spokesman of Mgbelekeke family who does not want his name in print said since the matter is in Court, both Uwaoma parties should have their documents and should tender it in the court.
