One month after, Kano gets Deputy Gov

The Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday held a screening session during which the state’s Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna was screened after being nominated as the new Deputy Governor of the State.

It would be recalled that Hafiz, resigned from his position on the 5th of August following hints that 31 members of the state’s House of Assembly had signed for his impeachment, which would have been effected Monday, August 6th.

Hafiz, had a running battle, with his Principal Officer over issues, bordering on loyalty between the Gandujiyya and Kwankwasiyya, factions within the Kano APC before the later pulled out to join forces with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the defection of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to the PDP.

The period of time taken to appoint a new Deputy generated lots of concerns in the state as many believe that, the internal wrangling which forced Hafiz out of office, was yet to be over.

Speaking shortly after the screening session, Kano State Commissioner of Information, Muhammad Garba, said the Governor’s choice of a new deputy is commendable considering the fact that, Gawuna is a grass root politician with large number of followers as well as a reliable and trusted fellow the governor can always count on.

Garba, further said, only the governor can decide the new roles the new deputy would be playing after he has been confirmed.

Asked if the new deputy would continue as the commissioner of Agriculture or take over the ministry of education which was part of the former deputy’s portfolio, he said the Governor would decide.
