Ondo LP may boycott LG polls in April

Members of the defunct Labour Party (LP) in Ondo state, has declared their intention to boycott the forthcoming April 23rd 2016, local government election as announced by the State Independent National Electoral Commission (SEIC).
In a press statement issued by the party’s State Secretary, Mrs. Ronke Akerelodu, on Tuesday to journalists in Akure, the state capital, said its decision to shun the council poll was as a result of Governor Olusegun Mimiko wanting to meddle into its affairs.
Akeredolu explained that despite the defection of Governor Mimiko to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in October 2014, he has never ceased in controlling the party’s leadership through the use of impostors who had been parading themselves and speaking for the party.
She cautioned the governor, whom she claimed was a former member to desist from splitting members and further creating crisis in its fold.
The party also vowed not to tolerate any act of indiscipline amongst card-carrying members of the party.
“Our attention has been drawn to the plan by the governor to keep parading fifth columnists as self-styled members of the party for selfish interest.
“We hereby state clearly that anyone who is not known to our party cannot speak or represent our party in any capacity.
“We also wish to inform the general public that Labour Party shall not participate in the council election”, the statement said.
