Ondo government suspends NURTW indefinitely

The National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, has been suspended indefinitely by the Ondo State government.

This comes after a violent clash between union groups that resulted in attacks on members and civilians.

Dr Doyin Odebowale, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Special Duties and Strategy, has directed NURTW representatives to vacate all motor parks across the state immediately.

The bloody clash was characterized by the government as unruly and uncultured conduct on the part of the Union’s leaders.

Members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, or RTEAN, are not affected by the suspension.

Members of the RTEAN were said to have behaved in a peaceful manner.

Both RTEAN and NURTW were similarly suspended and ordered to vacate the parks by the government in early March.

The suspension was later lifted.
