Omo-Agege v. Senate: Court ask parties to maintain status
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered parties in a suit filed by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (APC, Delta Central) against the Senate to maintain the status quo, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Omo-Agege had on April 3, filed the ex-parte application before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, asking the court to stop the bid of his colleagues to suspend him.
The senator is asking the court to stop “all further proceedings against him in respect of the allegations referred to the first defendant’s (Senate’s) Committee for Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition” be put on hold, pending the determination of the main suit.
Lawyer to Senator Omo- Agege, Mr. E.R. Emukpoeuo, had moved his client’s ex parte application before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba
But Justice Dimgba in his ruling on Wednesday, refused to grant ex-parte order and directed the parties to maintain status quo.
Senator Omo-Agege had urged the court to order parties to the main suit earlier filed on March 26, 2018 “not to consider, act on or give effect to any recommendation, resolution or decision of the first respondent’s (Senate) committee for Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition.”
He also named the Senate, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN) as co-defendants to the suit.
