Olubadan Calls on Federal Government to Address Ibadan’s Neglected Ecological Crises

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has made an urgent appeal to the Federal Government to intervene in severe ecological challenges threatening vulnerable communities in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The monarch made the plea on Thursday during a high-profile visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, in Abuja.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Adeola Oloko, Oba Ladoja highlighted that while previous interventions, such as the World Bank-assisted Ogunpa channelization, had focused on prominent commercial corridors like Mokola, Ekotedo, and Molete, other densely populated and poorer areas have been left behind.

“I want to request the assistance of the Federal Government to help solve the ecological problems threatening the downtrodden people living around Oranyan, Kudeti Agbongbon Area and some other parts of the city that have not been in the spotlight due to no fault of theirs,” the Olubadan stated.

He painted a grim picture of the suffering faced by residents in these neglected zones, noting, “What the numerous people along this route encounter during the rainy season is better imagined than told.”

Responding to the royal request, Senator George Akume commended Oba Ladoja for travelling all the way to Abuja to champion the cause of his people.

The SGF described the monarch’s proactive approach as the reason he enjoys “a wide perspective of affection” from his subjects.

Akume assured the delegation that the Federal Government would take necessary steps to assist the affected communities.

The Olubadan was accompanied on the visit by key political figures from the state, including Senator Fatai Buhari (Oyo North) and Senator Sharafadeen Alli (Oyo South).
