The Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, has reaffirmed his decision to remain monogamous, stating that peace, balance, and quality family life are more important to him than conforming to traditional expectations of polygamy for kings.

Speaking in an interview aired on BBC Pidgin and circulated on social media , the monarch explained that managing multiple households would complicate his private life and reduce the quality time he shares with his wife and children.

Ogiame Atuwatse III, who married Ivie Atuwatse in 2014 and is blessed with three children, noted that his role as a traditional ruler already places heavy demands on his time. According to him, moments away from official duties are best spent at home with his family.

The monarch revealed that constant meetings, calls, and engagements with government officials leave him with limited personal time, making family moments especially valuable. He added that he does not feel personally suited for polygamy and is fully content with a monogamous lifestyle.
