Olanusi: Ondo CJ Inaugurates Seven-Man Panel
The Ondo State Chief Judge, Olasehinde Kumuyi, has constituted a seven-man panel to look into some allegations levelled against the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi by the House of Assembly.
A retired Chief Magistrate, Olatunji Stanley Adeniyan heads the panel, which includes Mr. Aladesanmi Akingbade; Barr. Ademola Ekundayo; Ven. Richard Obafemi; Mr. Abraham Kola Mathew; Alhaji Ibrahim Sodeinde and Mrs. Eunice Yinka Obadele as members.
In a short statement to journalists on Thursday evening, Justice Kumuyi said constituting the panel was consequent upon the directive from the House of Assembly to investigate the alleged gross misconduct of Deputy Governor.
He added that “In line with the provision of section 188(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria 1999, as amended, I have set up a seven-man panel to investigate the allegations against the Deputy Governor, as required by the constitution”, he said.
The lawmakers had hinged their decision to impeach Olanusi on allegations of gross misconduct, financial misappropriation, absenteeism from official duties and allegedly causing political disaffection in the state executive council.
The notice of impeachment, moved by the House Majority Leader, Hon. Ifedayo Akinsoyinu, representing West Constituency II and seconded by Hon. Yinka Banso, representing Akoko North West Constituency I, was signed by 20 of the 26 lawmakers, after the Speaker, Jumoke Akindele, directed the Clerk, Bayo Akinyelu, to read out the allegations against the Deputy Governor.
The Speaker had, thus, ruled that Olanusi be served the notice personally, through his office, pasted at his residence and through a national daily, a decision which got a unanimous “yes” from all the lawmakers.
