Okpebholo: Edo by-election victory a sign Tinubu will win 2027 in state

Monday Okpebholo, governor of Edo state, has congratulated Joe Ikpea, senator-elect for Edo Central, and Omosede Igbinedion, member-elect for Ovia federal constituency, on their victories in last Saturday’s by-elections.

In a statement by Fred Itua, his chief press secretary, Okpebholo praised voters for turning out in large numbers to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates.

The governor said the outcome of the polls showed the trust and confidence the electorate have in the capacity of Ikpea and Igbinedion to represent their constituencies.

“This victory is a clear indication of the trust and confidence the people have in Ikpea and Igbinedion’s abilities to represent their interests effectively at the National Assembly,” Okpebholo said.

“I have no doubt that Ikpea and Igbinedion will be strong and powerful voices for our state, working tirelessly to attract development and ensure that the people of Edo Central and Ovia federal constituency receive the attention they deserve.”

Okpebholo described the victory as a boost for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, saying the party is confident of delivering President Bola Tinubu in Edo state.

The governor also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what he described as a free, fair and credible election. He further praised security agencies for ensuring peace throughout the process.

Okpebholo urged stakeholders to support the newly elected lawmakers in their service to the people.

“On behalf of the government and good people of Edo state, I wish Joe Ikpea and Omosede Igbinedion a successful and impactful tenure. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration that will bring about positive change and prosperity for our state,” he said.
