Okebukola Wants More Investment in Human Capital Devt

Former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Peter Okebukola, has called on federal and state governments to invest more in human capital development, adding that high-level human resources, in the right number, would keep the economy afloat in a season of revenue scarcity.

Okebukola made the call in a lecture titled: “Taking Advantage of a Depressing Nigerian Economy to Accelerate Socio-Economic Development”, to mark the 2013/2014 convocation of the University of Lagos.

He regretted that the nation would seem to have refused to make such investments, during the time of plenty, noting that education and training, which were the heart of human capital development, had assumed a wavy pattern in the last two decades.

Okebukola, who is the Chairman of Council, Crawford University, Ogun State, while identifying three measures of human capital as human capital endowment, human capital utilisation and human capital productivity, added that an increase in human capital would lead to a more efficient adaption of superior technologies, thereby shifting the frontier of the production possibility outwards.
