The Presidency has firmly denied reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sacked the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr. Bayo Ojulari, or directed him to tender his resignation.
The rebuttal follows a report published by an online newspaper on Saturday, which alleged that Ojulari was detained on Friday and forced to sign a resignation letter under pressure from the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi.

Describing the report as entirely false and baseless, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, told The Witness that no such directive was issued by President Tinubu and that Ojulari remains in his position.
Mr. Ojulari was appointed by the President in April 2025 as part of ongoing reforms within the national oil company aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and investment appeal in Nigeria’s energy sector.
