Obiozor

Socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze’s Ndigbo, has described the appointment of new service chiefs by President Muhammadu Buhari as a positive development, which will go a long way in reassuring Nigerians of his determination to contain and control the nation’s security problems with fresh ideas and strategies.

The group in a congratulatory letter signed by its President General, Amb. Prof. George Obiozor, said the Igbo were particularly thankful to the President for the appointment of Major General Lucky Irabor, a tested General and gentleman as Chief of Defence Staff.

However, the group stated: “Mr. President, one way of ensuring compliance with Federal Character provision of the Nigerian constitution is to observe the distribution of important and vital offices of the Federal Government in accordance with the zonal structure.

“Mr. President, particularly in the area of security architecture of the country, the South East zone which was conspicuously absent in your first term has now again not been included so far in your recent appointment of service chiefs.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo hopes and believes that Mr. President in continuation of appointments in this sector will consider the South East zone.

“We wish Mr. President a successful second term with peace and security for the country and prosperity for the people of Nigeria.” The President on Tuesday, January 26, accepted the resignation of the former service chiefs and immediately named their replacements.
