Ohanaeze: Tinubu has won southeast trust with road projects, Umahi appointment
Ohanaeze Ndigbo says President Bola Tinubu has earned the trust of the southeast by prioritising the region’s long-neglected road infrastructure and appointing an Igbo son as minister of works.
Okechukwu Isiguzoro, deputy president-general of Ohanaeze, said Tinubu’s administration is dismantling “age-old barriers designed to cripple the economic and social progress of our people.”
“Over the past 55 years since the Nigeria-Biafra war, it is undeniable that Tinubu stands as the first president to demonstrably capture the hearts and cultivate the trust of the people of the southeast,” he said.
“This significant shift stems from two factors: the appointment of Senator David Umahi as minister of works and the commitment to fixing federal roads in the region.”
Isiguzoro highlighted the construction of the Cross River–Ebonyi–Benue–Kogi–Abuja superhighway as a landmark project, describing it as a “vital alternative route for Ndigbo and the people of the former Eastern Region to access the north.”
He urged Tinubu to ensure the timely release of funds for ongoing road projects across the southeast.
“Ohanaeze unequivocally states that these infrastructural initiatives represent far greater and more immediate benefits to Ndigbo than any individual’s aspirations for the presidency in 2027,” he said.
The group also praised Umahi for “innovative construction techniques” in rehabilitating abandoned and newly approved projects, including the Lagos–Calabar coastal highway and Sokoto–Badagry highway.
Isiguzoro described Umahi as “one of the top five performing ministers in the federal executive council.”
