Ohanaeze: Demolitions at Trade Fair Complex designed to force Igbos out of Lagos

Ohanaeze Ndigbo has condemned the demolition of shops and structures at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos, describing it as a calculated attempt to compel Igbo traders to vacate the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement signed by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, its Deputy President General, and Chinemeze Ohia, National Spokesman Chief, the group urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene immediately.
“We hereby demand an immediate cessation of all demolition activities that specifically target Igbo investments within Lagos State.
“Such measures are perceived as a calculated political vendetta designed to systematically dismantle the economic contributions of the Igbo residents in Lagos State,” the statement read.
The group argued that the demolitions violated constitutional protections, international human rights conventions, and Nigeria’s Land Use Act.
It claimed over 2,700 properties valued at ₦23 trillion had been destroyed since Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu assumed office.
Ohanaeze advised Igbo entrepreneurs to adopt the Akụ Ruo Ulo (“Think Home”) strategy, warning that further demolitions may occur before 2027.
It also called for reopening the Calabar seaport and establishing a new seaport in Abia State to boost southeastern trade.
