Ohakim Calls for Mu’Azu Resignation

Former governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, has joined the league of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are demanding the exit of the National Chairman of the party, Mallam Adamu Mu’azu.

Ohakim, who expressed his views in an open letter titled: “Abysmal performance of PDP in 2015 polls”; and obtained by Daily Times called for the immediate resignation of Malam Mu’azu to enable the party to reposition itself for the next general elections.

He said: “Personally, I join other well-meaning leaders of the party in demanding the resignation of the ‘game changer’, that is MallamAdamuMu’azu. “The party should handover to a new leadership, which will begin to prepare it for the next election. I liken it what happen to a football tournament. After every bad outing, a new coach usually brought in to prepare the team for the next tournament.”

According to him, Mu’azu failed to address the issues that led the exits of five governors of the PDP extraction, as soon as Mu’azu came on stage.

Ohakim, who was one of the PDP governorship aspirants, observed that Mu’azu’s leadership style defied all the known tenets of party’s administration, stressing that he frustrated several party leaders across the country, who wanted to make inputs on how to save the party.

“The National Chairman was incommunicado most of the times. He neither accepted telephone calls nor returned. He never replied to letters or memos from well-meaning party leaders. For example, none of the petitions written to the National Working Committee (NWC), which he leads, on the governorship and national assembly primaries in the states were treated,”Ohakim said.

He said that, in spite of the victory of the All Progressive Congress (APC), the PDP was still in a good stead to play a big role in the building of the nation’s democracy.
