Ogwashi-Uku Poly Bubbles For NIPOGA Zonal Elimination Games
Delta owned Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku, near Asaba, is to poly host to the South-South Zonal elimination of the 2017 Nigerian Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) few weeks from now.
The Rector of the institution, Dr. (Mrs.) Edna Nneka Moegekwu who confirmed this to our reporter, noted that the school ever since she took over the mantle of leadership on 2012, had never missed the NIPOGA games, adding that students who have always represented the school have been uneatable.
She said that the essence of the zonal elimination, is to reduce the number of participants from some sports, such that the ones eliminated would not send their delegates to the main games, having lost and the preliminary stages.
She said “Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic will be hosting the zonal competition of all the polytechnics in the South-South zone and we are privileged to have been selected because we did not asked for it rather” disclosing that the zonal elimination for the South, South games from where the best in the zone will be selected to represent in the zone in the main events that will come up at a later date.
The Rector said that while she is hosting other polytechnics in the South South zone, amazingly her own athletes would not be among the competitors as the NIPOGA rules do not permit the hosting school to participate in their own school so as to avoid the use of home advantage against other competitors.
“To me, this is a very good management scheme of NIPOGA as they have removed all known ways and avenues that would enhance cheating or udice home advantage to hosting institutions”.
