Ogun State Police to Arraign TikToker After Confessed Fabrication of Rape Claim

The Ogun State Police Command has announced its intention to prosecute a TikTok content creator, identified as Mirabel, following her reported confession that a viral rape allegation she made was fabricated.

The development follows the emergence of a recorded telephone conversation between Mirabel and social media commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM), in which she admitted to falsifying key details of the assault.

In the audio recording made public on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Mirabel expressed remorse after being confronted with inconsistencies in her story.

She allegedly admitted to creating a fraudulent TikTok account to send herself threats, an attempt to bolster the credibility of her initial claim that an unidentified man had broken into her Ogijo apartment to sexually assault her. The admission has sparked a significant shift in public discourse, as many Nigerians had previously taken to social media to demand swift justice for the creator.

Senior police sources confirmed that the command is currently monitoring Mirabel at the hospital where she is receiving medical care.

Divisional Police Officer is reportedly stationed at the facility to ensure she is taken into custody immediately upon her discharge. “Once she is medically cleared, she will be invited for further questioning and arraigned accordingly,” a source stated, adding that the prosecution is intended to serve as a deterrent against the spread of misleading allegations that strain security resources.

Earlier in the week, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, Oluseyi Babaseyi, detailed the command’s initial response to the viral video. Following a directive from the Commissioner of Police, the Ibafo Division reached out to Mirabel, took her preliminary statement, and facilitated her transfer to a medical facility for examination.

Because the alleged crime was said to have occurred in the Ogijo area, the case was transferred to the appropriate jurisdiction for formal documentation.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) also noted that it had made contact with an associate of the creator but had to refer the case to Ogun State authorities as the incident fell outside its geographical jurisdiction.

As the investigation nears its conclusion, the police command has indicated that a formal update will be issued once their internal review is finalized and the suspect is fit for her court appearance.
