Speakers hailed President Tinubu for steering Nigeria through challenging reforms since taking office in May 2023. They cited his administration’s bold steps in ending fuel subsidies, recalibrating the foreign exchange system, and opening new channels for agricultural investment. These moves, they said, were laying the foundation for long-term economic stability despite initial hardships.
Tinubu’s infrastructure agenda was also spotlighted, with ongoing projects in power, transportation, and housing described as crucial drivers for national growth. “The President has shown courage in facing long-standing economic bottlenecks,” one speaker noted, adding that Nigerians would soon begin to reap tangible benefits from his policies.
Vice President Kashim Shettima’s contribution to national security and his oversight of key federal economic diversification programmes also received recognition. Attendees praised his leadership style, which they said complemented Tinubu’s reforms and gave Nigerians renewed confidence in government.
Locally, Governor Prince Bassey Otu’s administration came in for wide commendation. Since assuming office in May 2023, Otu has launched projects targeting rural development, healthcare access, education, and tourism revival. His “People First” mantra, highlighted by initiatives to boost small businesses, expand medical outreach, and promote the Obudu Cattle Ranch as a global tourism hub, was described as a blueprint for inclusive governance.
Deputy Governor Peter Odey was also lauded for his grassroots engagements and his pivotal role in strengthening governance in the northern senatorial districts of Cross River.
Hon. Agnes A. Atsu, who convened the rally, said the event was more than a political gathering it was a celebration of leadership. She emphasised that the massive turnout in Obudu reflected the people’s trust in the APC’s ability to deliver development. “This endorsement is about continuity, progress, and recognition of what our leaders are doing at both the state and national levels,” she declared.
Analysts say the Obudu rally is a strong signal of APC’s consolidation in Cross River, a state that has become increasingly important in the party’s southern strategy. With both traditional rulers and political elites present, the endorsement sends a clear message of unity among stakeholders.
The event also reaffirms the APC’s commitment to grassroots politics in Cross River North, a region known for shaping electoral outcomes in the state.
As Nigeria grapples with economic adjustments and reforms, rallies such as the one in Obudu provide the APC an opportunity to reinforce its support base and counter criticism of its policies. For Cross River, the endorsement strengthens the legitimacy of Governor Otu’s government and aligns the state firmly with Tinubu’s federal vision.
With a vibrant turnout, notable endorsements, and a showcase of unity, the Obudu mega rally has further entrenched APC’s foothold in the state and reaffirmed faith in its leadership at both national and state levels.
