Obinna Amuchionu Gunned Down By Suspected Cultists In Benin After Returning From Libya

Benin City– Tragedy struck recently in a remote community in Benin City when suspected cultists attacked and murdered a man identified as Obinna Amuchionu.

An eyewitness at the scene told our crime correspondent that Obinna Amuchionu fled and ran away from the country since 2017 after a dreaded cult leader known as”Boss” forcefully initiated him and Henry Benson and John Osaro into Black-axe confraternity in 2015 and thereafter ordered them to eliminate a prominent business-man in Benin City against their will.

The 3 friends were said to have reportedly made away with 500,000 naira payments made to each one of them to eliminate the chairman of the State Traders Welfare Union by going into hiding.

However, 7 years later, the suspected cultists and their leader “Boss” came after Obinna Amuchionu one of the two survivor of the 3 friends after John Osaro was allegedly murdered in 2015 .

The recent assault in April 2025 on Obinna Amuchionu by the boss and his thugs, according to another eyewitness, had been carefully thought out following leaked information to the suspected cultists that Obinna Amuchionu had secretly returned from Libya to Nigeria from his hiding .

According to an eyewitness account, the suspected cultists in their numbers acting under the directive of their leader “Boss” walked into the apartment where Obinna Amuchionu was lodging and dragged him out .

He was physically assaulted and beaten up until he collapsed unconsciously and was presumed dead as the suspected cultists and their boss immediately fled from the scene to avoid being arrested.

Meanwhile, Obinna Amuchionu was immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital for urgent medical treatment where he was pronounced dead .

Amid fears of possible reprisal attacks by rival cult groups and heightened insecurity in the state, many people particularly youths have taken the easy way out to avoid being caught in the crossfire by traveling incognito.

Recently cult wars have been responsible for many unresolved killings in several communities in Edo and Delta States respectively.

Paul Ifeanyi, an eye-witness recounted how cultists who had earlier murdered one Osaro John were also responsible for tragically ending the life of one Mr Fidelis Ojo, who returned from Libya in early April 2022

Paul who narrated how they were attacked while returning with Fidelis Ojo from a church service along old Asaba road , Delta State recalled how the cultists attempted to know from Fidelis Ojo if he was still able to recognize them.

They sought to know by asking to know the whereabouts of one Obinna Amuchionu and Henry Benson both of whom were familiar with him Fidelis Ojo in Benin City, which he simply responded to by saying “no”, and instantly he was murdered, Paul narrated.

It will be recalled that the trio of Osaro John, Obinna Amuchionu and Henry Benson, friends from childhood who attended the same church, were also victims of violent cult attacks and killings in 2015.

The friends at their place of work, it was gathered, were dangerously exposed to threats of cultism leading to their forceful initiation into the secret cult, Black- Axe confraternity.

According to a source who pleaded annonymity, the 3 friends were lured by one Mr.Boss(a.k.a Acid ) who handed each one five hundred thousand naira to eliminate the President of traders welfare union (names withheld) who was supposedly perceived as an enemy of the group.

However the 3 friends who managed to escape and ran to Delta State to avoid carrying out the task , it was gathered, were trailed by members of the dangerous cult group to where they were seeking refuge in Delta State.

It was learned that Osaro John was tragically murdered in cold blood on October 28th 2015 while Obinna Amuchionu who suffered gunshots wound when the cultists came attacking and Henry Benson made desperate efforts to escape.

Meanwhile, it was understood that the two surviving friends who narrowly escaped the bloody violence unleashed by the cultists ran to a remote community ( NIFOR) in Edo State where Obinna Amuchionu received treatment for gunshot wound from a traditional herbalist.

Following the several death threats from members of the extremely dangerous cult groups in the state and beyond on other members of the society owing to the incessant cult killings, recent findings revealed that there are no clear indications that Obinna Amuchionu and Henry Benson are still alive as their whereabouts however remain largely unknown to anyone within Edo State and beyond .

Also their expected return to the country anytime if alive could likely pose greater danger to their lives in the hands of members of the extremely dangerous cult group who are still on their trail till date.
