Obiano’s one year mile race

Anambra State is arguably the most politically aware state in the South East geopolitical zone given the calibre of politicians and well informed followership in the area hence, it is always ready to beam its search light on any public office holder that steps into the seat of governance.

Its people are quick to score any elected office holder high or low and cannot wait to dismiss those who may have fallen into the abyss if he or she fails to perform.

Apparently true to the nature of its people, the one year of Governor Willie Obiano has come under focus and already, analysts are set to access his performance since March 17th 2014, when he was sworn-into office.

Also the political opponents of the governor who may have some scores to settle with him are alleged to be pulling all stops in painting pictures of what they feel he has done wrong.

At his inauguration on 17th March 2014, Obiano made a solemn promise of rendering dedicated service to Anambra people, adding that his four-point agenda of continuity, consolidation, competition and commission of projects would be pursued vigorously.

According to the Governor: “like I had promised during my electioneering campaigns, no project started by the former governor would be abandoned. Those projects are for Anambra people and not for one man.

“We shall even improve on what we already have on ground and ensure that Anambra State is made the home of socio economic development in the country” he said.

At inception, Obiano’s opponents went to town canvassing that he has been overwhelmed by the trapping of governance, alleging that he is not cut out to run the affairs of Anambra people.

They equally accused him of mismanaging funds handed over to him by his predecessor, Mr. Peter Obi, alleging that the state is heading towards bankruptcy.

While his opponents were deep in the trenches sending scud missiles in the way of Obiano, the governor called those attacks mere bluff and settled down for the business of governance.

Against beliefs that the governor has lost steam, Obiano commenced the continuous execution of all contracts embarked upon by the former governor contending that no project would be left uncompleted.

It is on record that several roads contracts were awarded by the Obiano’s predecessor even three hours to inauguration on the march 17th 2014.

Obi’s supporters had earlier accused Obiano of abandoning ongoing projects embarked upon by his predecessor and also alleging that he appears to be concentrating developmental projects in only his zone, Anambra North.

Reacting to this allegation, the governor said “Any one telling you that my administration has abandoned all the projects embarked upon by the former governor is not saying the truth.

“All projects have continued and we shall complete all of them, All that we have so far done is to carry out constant inspection of those projects and also re-energize the contractors to execute quality work that would be long lasting.

“We have also embarked on more projects for our people and make no mistake about it, we shall deliver on record. We have also opened new roads to food producing areas in Anambra and this is aimed at checkmating rural – urban migration in order to keep our farmers at home and guarantee high food production,” Obiano added.

It is no news however that Awka capital city would soon wear a new and befitting look in few months following the constructing of three states of the arts fly-overs along Onitsha- Awka- Enugu Expressway
